Warm, Comfy Midtown Minimalist interior by workshop/apd

Oh this is a great example of a sort of soft, comfy modernism that isn’t lame and cold and sterile. Really, it’s so comforting to know that we can still create clean, crisp interiors that aren’t visually cluttered but also aren’t completely devoid of personality.
The soft color of the wood floors is lighter than pale, but not quite white, so it brings a brightness to the space without being harsh. Read more [ via : 2modern ]

Sugar Bowl Mountain Cabin by John Maniscalco Architecture

Perched on a concrete plinth that lifts the house above the tall winter snow-pack, a solid, cedar-clad volume houses sleeping areas, boot room, and service spaces. Above, a variety of living spaces, each enjoying mountain views, are gathered under a simple, bent planar roof form.
The exaggerated geometry of the openings frame views of horizontal snow drifts and vertical stands of pine trees. Read more [ via  : webcache ]

Cloud Modules' by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

modern home design | book store

Brothers and designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec came up with an ingenious and exciting new way to store books and other objects– and it’s a contemporary twist on a whimsical idea. Clouds.

Storage on the cloud modules doesn’t have to be limited to just books and objects. The modules are more like cylindrical floating cubbies of sorts, and the user can feel free to display any objects that nestle in just right. Or even leave them bare to show off their inventive look and shapes as a work of art in their own right.

The poystyrene structures are completely modular, coming in a ‘cloud-like’ shape and are able to be stacked up to your hearts content. The cloud bookcases come in a variety of colors and are the perfect focal point for any book-lover’s home.

Mini House architecture firm by Filter architecture

stucco over brick - modern architecture

modernist architects filter

This individual residential house is located in a suburb of Sarajevo. The house was designed in the ambit of an older building on the same site, which was an urbanistic requirement. The program demanded a much greater capacity for the new facility.

For this reason, a concept is created for reduction of the horizontal communication into vertical ones and for use of the basement floor for habitation by introducing lighting through denivelled patio. Rooms are becoming platforms that are distributed around the spiral staircase while catching views of the surrounding countryside and high mountains in the background, through internal and external openings.

eco-PERCH is a Shapely Green Tiny Retreat

UK-based Blue Forest makes inventive tree houses and recently introduced a new design concept called the eco-PERCH, which I think you’ll be interested in seeing.  The four-bed retreat can be delivered, assembled, and commissioned in about five days with things like photovoltaics, a composting toilet, and rainwater harvesting, etc.

Water Pumping Station Converted Into Sophisticated Modern Home

Camouflaged in the north of England, UK, this exceptional two-story building is the result of a notable architecture conversion. The Pump House is the contemporary and sophisticated version of a former water pumping station in Ilkley and shelters three bedrooms, two bathrooms and two receptions. Its exterior stays
true to the origins of the building and displays an intriguing brick finish. Once inside, the overall perspective is bent, as a potential visitor is likely to be surprised by the highly modern interiors. A generously sized living and dining space acts as the focal point of the entire house. The attention to detail is obvious in every corner of the project, from the lighting elements in the living area to the specially commissioned bathroom with imported marble from Italy. State-of-the art technology is also a defying factor for this home, equipped with infrared high security cameras and intercom system with electric gates. The Pump House is currently available for sale here, listed at £725,000.

A peaceful hillside residence in Texas

The Westlake Drive house is located on a beautiful golf course in Austin Texas, designed by James D. LaRue Architects. This sleek and contemporary residence is set deep into the hillside, blending seamlessly into its environment. According to the architects, the overall design of this 4,722 square foot home consists of three separate building structures, each housing different functions but all flawlessly connected by bridges, breezeways and ‘streets’. A cantilevered steel entry bridge hovers over an impressive, cave stone covered
retaining wall creating a sunken garden below with a cool continuous breeze. An abundance of windows, a glass enclosed bridge to the Master Suite and a glass lined stairwell allow for golf course views from nearly every room while erasing the separation of indoors and outdoors. Stone walls that continue from the exterior to interior, lend in drawing nature inside. Complete with a pool, outdoor kitchen, fireplaces and several seating areas, the outdoor living space blends naturally with the surrounding environment creating a modern but warm appearance. Despite the challenging terrain, this sophisticated, Texas contemporary home merges with ease into the hillside presenting a sophisticated look to the passing golfers while enjoying a coveted view of the golf course.
