Fiat Definition

Source (google.com.pk)
Giovanni Agnelli, with several investors, founded the Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino (F.I.A.T.) società per azioni (S.p.a.),[8] Italian Automobile Factory of Turin, in 1899. Its acronymous name was changed to upper- and lower-case Fiat in 1906.[9] Agnelli led the company until his death in 1945, while Vittorio Valletta administered the firm's daily activities. Its first car the 3 ½ CV (of which only 24 copies were built, all bodied by Alessio of Turin)[10] strongly resembled contemporary Benz,[11] and had a 697 cc (42.5 cu in) boxer twin engine.[11] In 1903, Fiat produced its first truck.[12] In 1908, the first Fiat was exported to the US.[12] That same year, the first Fiat aircraft engine was produced. Also around the same time, Fiat taxis became popular in Europe.[13]
By 1910, Fiat was the largest automotive company in Italy — a position it has retained since. That same year, a new plant was built in Poughkeepsie, NY, by the newly founded American F.I.A.T. Automobile Company.[14] Owning a Fiat at that time was a sign of distinction. The cost of a Fiat in the US was initially $4,000[15] and rose up to $6,400 in 1918,[16] compared to $ 825 for a Ford Model T in 1908,[17] and $ 525 in 1918, respectively.[18] During World War I, Fiat had to devote all of its factories to supplying the Allies with aircraft, engines, machine guns, trucks, and ambulances. Upon the entry of the US into the war in 1917, the factory was shut down as US regulations became too burdensome[citation needed]. After the war, Fiat introduced its first tractor, the 702.[19] By the early 1920s, Fiat had a market share in Italy of 80%.[20]
In 1921, workers seized Fiat's plants and hoisted the red flag of communism over them. Agnelli responded by quitting the company. However, the Italian Socialist Party and its ally organization, the Italian General Confederation of Labour, in an effort to effect a compromise with the centrist parties ordered the occupation ended. In 1922, Fiat began to build the famous Lingotto car factory — then the largest in Europe  — which opened in 1923. It was the first Fiat factory to use assembly lines; by 1925, Fiat controlled 87% of the Italian car market.[21] In 1928, with the 509, Fiat included insurance in the purchase price.[22]
Fiat made military machinery and vehicles during World War II for the Army and Regia Aeronautica and later for the Germans. Fiat made obsolete fighter aircraft like the biplane CR.42, which was one of the most common Italian aircraft, along with Savoia-Marchettis, as well as light tanks (obsolete compared to their German and Soviet counterparts) and armoured vehicles. The best Fiat aircraft was the G.55 fighter, which arrived too late and in too limited numbers. In 1945 — the year Mussolini was overthrown — the National Liberation Committee removed the Agnelli family from leadership roles in Fiat because of its ties to Mussolini's government. These were not returned until 1963, when Giovanni's grandson, Gianni, took over as general manager until 1966, as chairman until 1996

Fiat Panda by Novitec

Italian tuner Novitec has prepared an upgrade program for the latest Fiat Panda. A front spoiler attached to the production fascia is available for 184 euros, while the rear spoiler costs 150 euros. Stock wheels can be replaced by custom 7.5Jx17 N10 alloys available in matt-black or silver polished finish with 215/35 R17 tires. The entire set with tires costs 1,106 euros or you can get just the wheels for 159 euros each. The tuner provides a coilover suspension that lowers the Panda’s ride height between 30 and 80 millimeters. Also available are sport springs that lower the vehicle by 35 mm. A Novitec PowerJet 2 auxiliary control unit for the 2-cylinder TwinAir gasoline engine lifts output to 99 hp (73 kW), enabling the car to perform the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 10.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 117 mph (188 km/h). This upgrade kit will set you back 419 euros. The tuner also offers a Powerrail 5 module for the 1.3 16V MultiJet turbodiesel engine, increasing power to 91 hp (67 kW), up from 75 hp (55 kW). As a result, 0-62 mph is done in 11.9 seconds (12.8s standard) and top speed of 110 mph (178 km/h). It’s available for 335 euros. For an additional 251 euros Novitec can fit the Panda with a sport rear muffler that has a one-round 90mm tailpipe on both sides.

G-Tech Fiat 500 Speedster

Germany's G-Tech has unveiled a new tuning program for the Fiat 500. Dubbed the Sportster, the model features a "chopped" roof that gives the hatchback a distinctive and sporty appearance. There's also a new front bumper, revised side skirts and a modified rear fascia with an integrated diffuser and a center-mounted dual exhaust system. Interior changes are limited, but apparently include Recaro seats, a Momo steering wheel and stainless steel pedals. The entry-level model produces 224 PS (165 kW / 221 hp), while the Sportster RS develops 250 PS (184 kW / 247 hp). If that isn't impressive enough, the range-topping Sportster RGT has 340 PS (250 kW / 335 hp).

Abarth 500 Cinquone Modigliani race car by Romeo Ferraris

Italian tuning and race firm Romeo Ferraris has made a street legal version of their Abarth 500 Cinquone Modigliani race car.
Unveiled at Autodromo Vallelunga recently, the Cinquone Stradale maintains the same body appearance as the race car. It includes a new hood with large dual air scoops, front bumper with a large central air intake, integrated wide body fenders and skirts, and a rear bumper with central mounted exhaust and diffuser.
The engine which is the same Fiat 1.4-liter turbo four cylinder from the stock 500 has a new exhaust system with metal catalytic converter, remapped ECU and a bigger turbo that now delivers 300 PS - only 60 PS less than the race car.
Inside, the rear seat bench has been removed and replaced with a roll bar. The dash pad is covered in suede while carbon fiber race seats are draped with OMP 4-point seat harnesses.
The Cinquone Stradale weighs just over 1,000 kg (2,205 lbs) compared to the race car's 900 kg (1,984 lbs).

Fiat 500 by Gucci Series at NY Fashion Week

A stylish car associated with one of the most exclusive names in fashion needs the appropriate introduction. And that’s why Fiat chose to launch the 500 by Gucci edition of its subcompact car in the US at next month’s New York fashion week.

The special edition, which has been available in Europe since July, is mechanically identical to the run-of-the-mill US edition of the 500, but Gucci's creative director Frida Giannini customized its styling, adding the brand’s famous red and green pattern, a two-tone leather interior as well as its double-G logo in places like the wheels and the gearlever.

The Fiat 500 by Gucci will be available both as a hatchback and as a convertible, in black or white finishes.

Expect pricing of both models to be equivalent to Gucci’s other products. Just to get an idea, in Europe the hatchback starts from €17,000 (US$24,200 and the 500C convertible from €20,000 (US$28,800).

Lady Drives Fiat Cinquecento with the Handbrake On !!!

While we could understand if someone forgot to release a broken or a loose handbrake that allows the rear wheels to turn around with some difficulty, how can you drive a car on the road with the rear wheels completely locked down and not take any notice?
And that's exactly what we have in this video starring a lady behind the wheel of a green Fiat Cinquecento (which was the 500's predecessor in the Italian brand's range).
Not only did she forget the handbrake on, but she doesn't even pay attention to the young men trying to inform her about the brake. Follow the jump for the video.

Most US Buyers of Fiat 500 Prefer their Cars Customized and Expensive

Fiat has returned to the American market after 28 years – and it has done so in style with its colorful city car, the 500. Besides having already sold 7,982 cars since March with 3,038 deliveries in July alone, Fiat seems to be reaping great profits from its small model.
That’s because American buyers apparently like to personalize their 500 by choosing pricier editions and adding numerous options. As a result, prices go up generating bigger profits for the Italian brand.
For example, the Sport version accounts for almost half of the 500's sales, despite being $2,000 more expensive than the base Pop version, according to the brand’s chief, Laura Soave.
Moreover, the $19,500 Lounge accounts for 20% of total US sales in the first five months of 2011. Apparently, customizing seems to be the rule rather than the exception.
“A lot of what we ‘re seeing is customers really wanting to build their car” said Soave. And they’re willing not just to pay more, but also wait patiently for six to eight weeks to get their personalized 500 delivered.
The 500 is offered in 14 exterior colors and numerous options that allow for 500,000 different combinations.
Fiat already has 94 US dealerships through which the 500 is sold, and until the end of the year this number will reach 500 across the States. Finally, the high demand of the 500 has forced Fiat to increase its US inventory from the initial target of 60 days to 90 days by the end of July.
