Renault Duster by DC Design

The Renault Duster (aka Dacia Duster) has received a significant overhaul from DC Design. It costs 3.49 lakhs (about 4.940 EUR / 6,400 USD / 4,200 GBP) and completely transforms the looks of the Duster, both inside and out. Up front we notice the bold approach with a trail of LED lights and fog lights. Packing polished side steps, the SUV is wearing a matte black paint and rides on DC's own alloys.

More important changes can be found inside where we see artificial leather, faux wood and a multimedia infotainment system with tilting screens for those sitting in the back. The Duster's center console has been extended to the rear seats which has basically transformed the vehicle into a four seater. Those rear seats are 6-way adjustable, while the left one can be transformed into a bed once the front left seat is folded.

The Renault Espace is a large MPV from French car-maker Renault. Generations 1–3 were sold under the Renault brand but manufactured by Matra. The current fourth generation model, which seats seven passengers, is an all-Renault product; the Renault Grand Espace is a long-wheelbase version with increased rear leg room and boot size. The name "Espace" means "space" in French.
The Espace is often credited as being the world's first MPV (a claim Renault themselves encourage). However, the 1950 Volkswagen Type , also known as the Kombi, and the 1956 Fiat 600 Multipla, popularised the versatile multi-seater concept some 30 years prior to the Espace, and the concept had been tried several times before that, an early example being the 1935 Stout Scarab, and there was the very similar in concept Plymouth Voyager which Lee Iacocca claims was proposed by himself in 1973 when he was working at Ford, although he never got the chance to build it until he went to Chrysler in 1984, the same year the Renault Espace was launched.
In December 2011, Renault announced that the Laguna, Espace, Kangoo, Modus, and Wind lines would be axed in the United Kingdom as part of a cost-cutting plan to help the company earn a profit.
This change took effect in February 2012. The Laguna, Espace, Kangoo, Modus, and Wind lines are still available in Europe.

The Espace's design was originally conceived in the 1970s by the British designer, Fergus Pollock, (at around the same time as Giorgetto Giugiaro's 1978 Lancia Megagamma concept MPV), who was working for Chrysler UK (formerly the Rootes Group), at their design centre at Whitley, (now the Jaguar design centre) in Coventry. Later Matra, who were affiliated with Simca, the then French subsidiary of Chrysler, were involved in partnership in the design, spearheaded by Greek designer Antonis Volanis.
The Espace was originally intended to be sold as a Talbot, and to be a replacement for the Matra Rancho leisure activity vehicle. Early prototypes used Simca parts, and hence featured a grille reminiscent of the Simca 1307 (Chrysler Alpine).
In 1978, six years before the Espace went into production, Chrysler UK and Simca were sold to the French company PSA Peugeot Citroën (PSA), and the Espace design was given to Matra.
PSA decided the Espace was too expensive and too risky a design to put into production, and Matra took their idea to Renault (PSA finally ventured into the minivan sector eleven years later with the Citroën Evasion/Peugeot 806).
In 1982, Pierre Heymann who was working on the comparative testing for automobiles at the French National Consumer Institute, made his design for an ideal car and proposed it to Renault.
The Matra concept became the Renault Espace. The design featured a fiberglass body mounted on a warm-galvanized steel chassis, using the same technique and assembly line at the factory as the Talbot Matra Murena. In fact, the introduction of the Espace required the relatively small factory to cease the production of the Murena, to make room for the Espace.

Renault Clio RS by Cam Shaft

The hot RS version of the pre-facelift third-gen Renault Clio has received an upgrade program from the German engineers over at Cam Shaft. Under the hood it has the same naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine but it has received a reprogrammed ECU and a K&N sports air filter that has increased the power from the standard 197 hp (147 kW) to 222 hp (165 kW). It has the stock 17-inch alloy wheels but as you can see these have been painted in green and are wrapped around in semi slick Kumho 215/45 tires. Other than that, this Clio RS features an H&R coil over suspension and the front braking system of the Megane R26R Mk2. The body is wearing a matt graphite metallic wrap with a bunch of green splashes and some stickers.

Renault Clio RS by MR Car Design

German tuner MR Car Design has brought its tuning talents to the Renault Clio RS.

The result is the hot hatch you see in photos here, with a body kit that includes a new rear diffuser with integrated dual-exhaust.

For the ride, the tuner provides rims in 8x18-inch dimensions wrapped in 225/35R18 tires as well as a KW Variant 3 coilover suspension.

Output on the Clio RS is also now 220 PS (162 kW / 217 hp) on the naturally-aspirated 2.0 liter engine.

Megane RS 250 by RS Tuning

RS Tuning of Britain has a new Stage 2 package for the Renault Megane RS 250.

Stage 2 delivers an output boost on the Megane RenaultSport 250 by means of a high-flow intercooler from Forge Motorsport, a stainless-steel sport exhaust from Milltek, a choice of a cat bypass pipe or a sport catalyst, and an ECU remap.

All told, power on the 2.0 liter turbocharged F4Rt unit now comes in at 320 PS (235 kW / 316 hp) and 488 Nm (360 lb-ft) of torque over the series' 250 PS (184 kW / 247 hp) and 340 Nm (248 lb-ft).

The package costs £2199, including VAT, with the cat bypass pipe which is for circuit use only. The street-legal sports catalyst option is priced at £2499, VAT included.

RENM RS 250 Black Edition

Australian tuner RENM Performance has a tuning package for the Renault Megane RS.

The RENM RS 250 Black Edition dials power up on the hot hatch to 310 PS (228 kW / 306 bhp) and 430 Nm of torque by means of an ECU remap, a new turbo intercooler, sport air filter and a stainless-steel performance exhaust.

Wheels are the 19-inch Titanium Gray race-light rims while the ride gets lowered by 35 mm (adjustable) with the dampening coilover suspension. The tuner also adds a performance brake system with red calipers.

RENM Performance also offers options such as race seats, seat-belt harnesses and a sport steering wheel.

Renault Samsung Motors Rolls Out Flagship SM7

The South Korean unit of Renault has come out with full details on its new SM7 flagship sedan a week before the car officially goes on sale in the country.

The French carmaker, which bought a 70% stake in Samsung Motors back in 2000 to spearhead the brand's expansion efforts in the developing Asian region, said the SM7 will have a "radical effect on the big saloon car market".

Developed over a time of 32 months, with R&D investments reaching some 400 billion South Korean won (€207 million), Renault Samsung Motors' new sedan model enters the local market seven years after the launch of the original, Nissan Maxima-based SM7 in 2004.
The new SM7 has grown in size offering improved interior space over its predecessor. According to the company, knee room for rear passengers is up by more than 70mm over the previous SM7.
Renault Samsung Motor's newest creation is powered by the third generation of the Nissan VQ engine series. The SM7 can be specified with one of two VQ engines: a 2.5-liter V6 delivering 190HP and 243Nm (179.3 lb-ft) that returns a combined fuel economy of 9lt/100km (26.1 mpg US), and a 3.5-liter V6 producing 258HP and 330Nm (243.4 lb-ft), which returns 10.4lt/100km (22.6 mpg US) on the combined cycle.
Both engines are hooked up to a standard six-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift function.
Renault Samsung Motors CEO Jean-Marie Hurtiger had this to say about the firm's new flagship model:
"[The] All-New SM7 is Renault Samsung Motors' new flagship and delivers everything customers expect of a big premium saloon, including refined, luxurious styling, exceptional quality, and outstanding comfort and driving pleasure thanks to the contribution of the Renault-Nissan Alliance's world class technological expertise. All-New SM7 will set new standards in Korea's big family saloon car market."
The company said prices for new SM7 range from 30 to 39 million Korean won (€19,724 to €25,641), while that of the previous SM7 ranged from 28.8 to 37.7 million Korean won (€18,935 to €24,786).

Renault UK Launches Gordini Versions of Wind Roadster

The UK market is welcoming the launch of the third Gordini-badged model after the respective versions of the Twingo RS and Clio RS, this time in Wind roadster guise, with buyers having a choice of two engines, the 1.2-liter TCE 100HP and the 1.6-liter 133HP.

In addition to the Wind Gordini models, the French firm also slashed the list price of the Dynamique and GT Line trim levels by up to £2,215, with prices now starting at £12,995, instead of £15,205.

The new Wind Gordini is available in the firm’s trademark Malta Blue metallic paint with twin white Gordini stripes, while Pearl Black and Glacier White are no cost options.

Other special exterior touches include white door mirrors, grille trim and cowls, and 17-inch alloy wheels with a polished face and gloss black inserts. Inside, there are Gordini blue and dark grey leather seats with embossed Gordini logo, numbered Gordini plaque (1-200), satin chrome effect gearknob with blue Gordini badge and blue gearstick surround.

Standard equipment features include Bluetooth connectivity, climate control, multi-functional TunePoint for USB connections and Thatcham category 1 alarm.

Renault also offers three key options such as the Renaultsport exhaust for £450 (1.6 only), 17-inch Gordini alloy wheels with polished face and blue inserts, plus a wind deflector for £200.

UK Insurer Parts the Most Unreliable and Costly Car

In an article on a BMW-faced Honda Accord we found for sale on Craigslist back in 2008, we wrote that in a perfect world, our ultimate car would be “designed by Italians, engineered by Germans, built by Japanese and marketed by Americans”.So, what’s the worst car one could imagine? Well, if we played around with the above statements, we’d say one designed by Japanese, engineered by Americans, built by Italians and marketed by Germans.
But UK insurance firm Warranty Direct had something a little bit different in mind. Instead of playing the origin card, the company decided to check out its database of 50,000 live policies on cars aged five years on average to part the UK’s most unreliable vehicle that would break down every other month and cost an average of £2,050 (equal to US$3,270 - €2,330) to fix each year.
By studying its Reliability Index tool that measures car reliability by considering average cost of repair, frequency of failure, age and mileage, the UK firm came up with an owner’s nightmare, which it calls the Monster Mk1.
The most unreliable car would be powered by an MG TF engine, ride on the suspension of a BMW M3, and have the electric workings of the Renault Megane, the air-conditioning system of a Seat Alhambra, the heating system of a Seat Toledo, the ignition of a Mercedes V-Class, the steering system of a Volvo C70, the gearbox of a Land Rover Freelander and the brakes of an Audi A8.
Commenting on the results, Warranty Direct managing director, Duncan McClure Fisher, said: “The Monster Mk1 represents the worst-performing vehicles in every sector, from suspension to electrics, on our roads today. The wide range of cars included in our special blend highlights how mostly reliable cars can be dragged down by one problem part.”
According to the British company, nearly 40 percent of BMW M3s require repairs to axle and suspension components alone each year, while the same percentage of Renault Meganes report an electrical fault on an basis.
Furthermore, one in five Land Rover Freelanders suffer transmission glitches each year and the same number of Audi A8s will need repairs to their brakes.
The company also found that almost a fourth of MG’s TF sports car owners will experience engine troubles, while more than one in eight SEAT Alhambra MPVs will need their air-con fixed during a typical year.

Red Bull Takes the Front Row in Qualifying with Webber in Pole Position

The unpredictable weather conditions made the qualifying of the British Grand Prix something of a gamble, and the teams weather forecasts were expecting rain during the final session. So everyone made sure that they got out quickly in order to set a fast time before it started to rain again.

Once again Sebastian Vettel was the man to beat, setting a provisional pole. But this was not to last as his team mate, Mark Webber, recorded a fastest lap just seconds later beating Vettel by just 0.032 seconds.

Behind the Red Bull-occupied front row were the two Ferraris. Third place went to Fernando Alonso, who was just 0.1 seconds slower than Vettel and fourth to Felipe Massa, with the Scuderia obviously very happy with the progress they have made.

Jenson Button’s McLaren was fifth, but his team mate Lewis Hamilton couldn’t manage anything better than 10th place in his home Grand Prix. The surprise of the day was the performance of Paul di Resta, who in his rookie period brought his Force India to the sixth place of the grid.
